The Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) in St John’s, Co Tipperary, is one of the only community hospitals in Ireland which has a community hospital option for the elderly.
If you are an elderly person and are at risk of dying due to a serious illness, such as cancer, dementia or heart disease, you could receive care at the hospital.
If there is an immediate need for your care, you will receive medical assistance and medical care will be provided.
The hospital has a free community ambulance service, which will be available on the weekends and is staffed by local paramedics.
The community hospital is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Community hospitals can offer respite care, which is usually reserved for the frail elderly and the disabled.
The CMH offers respite support for residents and visitors who have lost their homes to fire, flood, war or natural disaster.

It also has a respite program for people who have been admitted to hospital and their carers.
The St John also has community care and is open from 8:30am to 9pm.
You might be able a free respite home care service if you are in hospital and need urgent care.
The Community Health Services of Ireland (CHSI) in Galway, Co Louth, offers respites for people in need of respite in a hospital, nursing homes and hospices.
This facility has a dedicated nursing home section.
You could ask to be placed on a special nursing home program.
You would receive a free room and meal for a period of 12 weeks, with access to the home.
The respite would include a laundry room, laundry facilities and a kitchen and dining area.
If people have respiratory or heart conditions, the home could be considered for respite respite.
