The KFC chain has been embroiled in controversy in recent years for its “black-on-black” policies.
One of the company’s latest policy changes involves an option to change the colour of its chicken, but the decision was controversial.
Read moreKFC apologised on Tuesday for the policy change and promised to continue to be inclusive in its restaurants.
But for some parents and teachers, the news was not good news.
A community group representing parents, teachers and students has called on KFC to be more transparent about its “Black and White” policy and to commit to diversity in its food offerings.
“Our children and families deserve better, and our community and KFFC have a responsibility to change their practices and the way they are operating,” said Dr Lisa Kavanagh, the group’s chief executive.KFC said it had changed the colour menu on its restaurants in the past to reflect local cultural traditions.
But Kavanag said it did not consider the community to be part of the black-onblack issue.
“We are very mindful of what is in the community and how we do things.
We’ve had to look at the cultural norms and that’s where we are with our policy change,” she said.
She said it was not a matter of race, but of “cultural diversity”.
“The KFC Black and White menu reflects the diversity of the community we serve.
We’re a diverse organisation.
We work with people of all cultures and religions.
We respect everyone and all cultures,” Kavanagy said.
The group’s member parents and members have been told to post pictures of themselves wearing a KFC uniform on social media and to ensure that the pictures are captioned in a way that reflected the community.
They have also been told not to ask for the colour-changing menu.
“I don’t know how we can continue to support this restaurant, especially for people that feel so excluded and scared,” said Tami Kavanage, the daughter of a KFPC member.
“If we don’t do it, I think we’re going to be the next victim.”
“We’re not going to get a black-and‑white menu,” said another parent, who did not want to be named.
“You have to do what’s right for your children, not just the people you’re talking to,” she added.
“They need to understand that the people that they’re working with are going to make sure that they don’t make these decisions, that they make it with their heart and not with their head,” said a parent who asked not to be identified.
A KFC spokesman said: “We’re committed to being an inclusive, welcoming and inclusive environment for all of our customers and employees.”
The ‘black and white’ menu was changed in recent months, to reflect our local culture, and has been updated to reflect the latest information as it relates to the community.
