Posted February 16, 2018 09:51:42Unity’s Unity 4 engine is great for VR, but it has one major weakness: it doesn’t support a full-featured VR experience.
But that’s about to change.
This week, Epic Games announced that it’s going to be making a VR game with Unreal Engine V, the next-generation engine for creating VR games.
It’s not the first time Epic Games has created a VR title, but this is Epic’s first VR game.
Unreal Engine is the engine that powers Unreal Engine, the engine powering Unity, the game engine powering Unreal Engine Team, and so on.
The Unreal Engine team has been working on VR games for a while, so they’re not new to this.
But this is the first VR title made by the Unreal Engine.
“VR is our fastest-growing industry and we want to make sure we deliver a game that we can be proud of,” said Epic Games’ president and CEO Tim Sweeney.
“We want to create the most immersive and fun experience possible.
This is what we’re doing.
And we’re very excited to be able to do that with Unreal.”
The VR game will be called Epic Citadel.
Epic Citadel will be released on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
It will feature a full VR experience, so it will be capable of handling all of the major VR headsets.
Sweeney says the game is aiming to be playable on both Rift and Vive.
“As VR gets more immersive and we can use our new hardware to get more immersive, I think we will see a greater demand for VR experiences,” he said.
The game will have a lot of the same features as the Rift and the Vive versions of the game.
You’ll be able interact with NPCs, and there will be a lot more stuff you can do in the game that’s not in the Oculus version.
“You’ll be in a game environment that is very immersive,” Sweeney said.
“There’s going be a ton of things you can explore in this environment.
You can go through portals, walk through walls, jump over things.
You know, there’s going and there’s a ton more.”
There will also be a wide variety of weapons, including shotguns and crossbows.
It won’t be an entirely new game in the vein of Gears of War or Call of Duty, but Sweeney said that Epic will have something different.
“I think there will also still be a whole new game, but I think it will have much more in common with a traditional FPS,” he explained.
“It’s going take place in the world, but there will still be an overall story and a lot will still stay familiar with what you know and love about games like Gears of Wars and Call of Command.”
Sweeney explained that Epic Citadel is in the early stages of development.
“The game is in a very early state right now,” he told Polygon.
“So I don’t have a good way to say when the game will go out to everyone and when we’ll launch it.”
It will be available for purchase on February 18, and will launch on Oculus and HTC devices.
You may be wondering how Epic Citadel came about.
Epic Games is owned by Zenimax Media, the parent company of Activision Blizzard, and the company is based in Austin, Texas.
In 2018, Zenimac purchased Epic Games, which has since expanded to include Unreal Engine and Unity.
Zenimakos acquisition means Epic Games will now be run by Epic Games Studio, a subsidiary of Zenimazis parent company Zenimatic.
Sweeney said Zenimamatic and Epic Games Studios will continue to work together to make VR games, but they’ll be independent of one another.
“This isn’t like a studio like a Warner Bros or a Microsoft or a Activision,” Sweeney explained.
Instead, Epic will be run in a way that lets Zenimacs and Epic developers work together.
“They’ll work independently,” Sweeney added.
“Because they’re independent, they can work on different projects, they’ll work on projects that they’re passionate about, and they’ll get to work with different people.”
This will also allow for some flexibility in the Unreal games that Epic Games and Zenimatics games make, Sweeney explained, but he didn’t say when exactly Epic will release an Unreal game.
The Oculus Rift version of the Unreal Citadel game is not planned to be available until 2018.
The HTC Vive version of Epic Citadel, meanwhile, is scheduled to launch in 2018.
Sweeney and Epic’s CEO said that the VR games that Zenimauts and Epic games make will be more similar than the VR experiences that Epic Studios and Zenemauts make.
“In terms of the games that we’re creating, the ones that we make in Unreal Engine we’re using the same technology,” Sweeney told Polygons.
